
Health Care Volunteer Project (Buenos Aires)
Volunteers will assist and observe in local clinics and communities in the outskirts of Buenos Aires. This project is ideal for volunteers with a basic medical background, interest in medical care, or who may be embarking upon medical studies in the future.
The volunteer may be involved in the following tasks:
- Assisting the clinic supervisors with the many people requiring medical help, especially children and young adults from the neighborhood.
- Assisting- if medically qualified- in pregnancy tests, baby weighing, the checking of vitals (temperature, blood pressure, heart beat etc) and also having the opportunity to sit in on consultations should the doctor on duty and the patient consent.
- Assisting in sorting and labeling medication in the clinic pharmacy.
- Assisting Health Promoters in the evaluation of the neighborhood and its needs. Working in promoting awareness against violence, as well as, education and prevention of communicable and noncommunicable diseases.
The project is open to both medically qualified and non-qualified volunteers. You can also help out in the administration area, as there are plenty of patient files that need uploading onto the clinic computer system. The accurate data capturing of this information is of great importance and thus this is an essential activity.
The schedule would run Monday to Friday, about 4-5 hours a day. A high intermediate level of Spanish is required, along with a minimum stay of 2 months.
Interpretation For a Conference on Consumption and Recycling (Buenos Aires)
This opportunity entails helping interpret for a conference aimed at diagnosing the situation of consumption and recycling in Argentina. You will see how the implementation of of guidelines for recycling in companies through CSR programs works. The volunteer will meet with various recycling companies, universities and public and private entities relating to the objective of gathering information for assembling your project. The volunteer's main task will be facilitating the exchange of information through English-Spanish interpretation. He/she will be able to observe in depth the work of professionals in both the public and private sector as well as national and international companies.
At least a high intermediate level of Spanish is required and the volunteer will need to be physically present in Buenos Aires for at least 2 months.
Hostel Work/Cultural Exchange Volunteer Program (Iguazu Falls City)
Declared a UNESCO "World Natural Patrimoney of the Humanity" site, the Iguazu Falls are a sublime spectacle. You, as a volunteer will have the opportunity to work in a centrally located hostel together with young Argentinians. You will have the chance to learn about the area and its rich culture, all the while rapidly improving your Spanish skills.
The volunteer's main day to day tasks include learning about the area and passing that touristic information on to travelers, check in/out procedures and providing information about hostel activities and services. On a deeper level, the volunteer will be tasked with helping the local community make steps toward sustainability of natural reservations, with the goal of responsible tourism always in mind. At the conclusion of the stay, the volunteer will also be asked to present ways in which Voluntario Global can improve its program to better serve the hostel, volunteers and surrounding area.
This is a great program for anyone studying Hospitality, Hotel Management, PR, Marketing or Environmental Studies. The volunteer would be working Monday-Friday, about 5 to 6 hours per day. The minimum stay is 2 months and only a basic level of Spanish is required.
